Here’s what actually happens with an Eco Toilet:

💧 Urine is diverted, which keeps things dry — no sewage, no swampy bacteria, no stink.

💩 Solids drop into a container with dry biomass (like wood shavings or coconut husk). That mix dries it out and starts the transformation.

🪱 Over time, the dehydrated feces becomes safe, usable biomass — and when composted or fed to worms, it turns into rich, living soil.

Eric Michalovic has spent over 30 years designing off-grid systems — solar, water, and now, toilets. His journey started in the woods of Maine, working with biodigesters and rethinking the way we handle human waste. What he saw was simple but shocking:

We’ve been treating a natural resource like trash.

Most systems mix urine and feces, creating toxic sludge that breeds parasites, releases ammonia gas, and contaminates groundwater with methane and pathogens. It’s not just gross — it’s dangerous.

And most so-called “composting toilets”? They’re not composting. They’re making raw sewage — illegal without proper waste handling infrastructure.

Eric knew there had to be a better way. So he built it.

Just like your body separates streams, our systems do the same — turning “waste” into value: Urine is diverted to nourish plants or filter into greywater systems. Feces becomes safe, legal compost or clean-burning biogas — capable of powering a stove, water heater, or generator.
